Rationale: I have chosen Option A, where you select a significant speech or soliloquy from Macbeth and present it in a modern form with modern language and a present-day setting. The character I am portraying is Macbeth in Act 1 Scene 7 where he is verbalising his thoughts about the deed that he is about to perform. He is aware of the powerful reasons for murdering the king but is nagged by self-doubt arising from his fear of retribution both in heaven and on earth and by his likely loss of reputation.
I have set my monologue at a Dance studio.I am a young adult who has just heard that Holly (my cousin) has been elected as dance leader again for the third year in a row and I am expressing my jealousy to Skye, my best friend over the phone.Prop List:PhoneDance trophiesCharacter List:Skye (best friend)Jade (me)Holly (cousin)Murder on the Dance Floor(pacing around the room in a fury and then I madly reach for my phone, dial Skye, my best friends number and start ranting as soon as she answers)I feel like I keep being overlooked, Skye, they aren’t giving anyone else a chance. Holly gets to be the dance captain again. This is the third time!! She gets to oversee all the choreography and she gets all the credit.I can’t bear to see her get all the glory again when it is always a team effort.
She doesn’t even acknowledge the rest of the team.I can’t believe it is her and not me! AGAIN!! It’s so unfair! (starting to get angry) She must have the popularity vote with the rest of the team. It’s the only way she could have got the role again. (pause) You didn’t vote for her, did you?It doesn’t matter.
I don’t care. It should have been me! (stamp foot) I have been here longer than her. I have worked so hard. Does anyone even care? Anyway, thanks for listening to me rant. I feel a bit better now. I should go, talk to you later.
Bye Skye. (Put the phone down)I have got to get rid of Holly. I can only see one way, I need to destroy her reputation. I can start by spreading bad rumours about her using the dance fund to her own benefit and conspiring with our main rival team. I will undermine her integrity and make her look so bad she will be removed form the role as dance leader. But if someone finds out about this, it could ruin my social status and the whole thing could backfire. If I do it sooner rather than wait until I talk myself out of it though, I might get away with it. But then again, I won’t really, there will be huge consequences for my actions and the decisions I make.
It will reflect bad on the studio and the rest of my team. What am I doing? Holly is my cousin, I should be supporting her not trying to get rid of her. She is a good leader plus she has won trophies for us. I have nothing against her it’s just my selfish ambition. I know I shouldn’t do this I’m just so consumed by my desire to be appointed as dance leader.
I can’t let emotion destroy my ambition. This might be my one chance to succeed.
