The Texas Constitution is one of the largest constitutions written in the United States. It contains approximately 90,000 words and some of the important amendments that are in the constitution are: the bill of rights, separation of powers, and checks and balances. The first Texas constitution was written in 1836, but prior to this Texas was part of Coahuila Mexico and was considered as a Mexican State, they first established their constitution in 1827. Approximately after 9 years of being part of Mexico, Texas disconnected itself and announced their independence from Mexico. Texas had to create their own constitution since they were independent, but they wrote the constitution based on the experiences that they had while they were with Mexico.In Mexico, their government was inspired by the Catholic church which created some misunderstandings because most Texans we protestants.
When Texas became and independent state, they wrote the constitution by carefully separating state laws and religious laws, they also didn’t allow any religious man to be in office. The constitution also included, homesteads, community property, and common law in which they adopted from Mexico.
