There is global recognition that gender equalit? in political participation is a fundamental aspect of modern democratic governance, thus the development of an? countr?, as it has been established, requires the participation of both women and men, thus, (Ukrainian Women’s Fund, 2011). It is also required, that both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities to participate full? in all aspects and at all levels of political processes.
But in practice, women face challenges and the number of women in leadership and decision making positions is extremel? low. Meanwhile, it has been proven that countries with increased women’s participation in politics and leadership position tend to be more inclusive, egalitarian and democratic (Thewill, 2016).Also, under international standards, women constitute over half of the world’s population and contribute in vital wa?s to societal development, both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities to ever?thing worldwide, most especiall? to participate full? in all aspects and at all levels of political processes. In man? societies, women assume some ke? roles, which include: the role of a mother, producer, home-manager, communit? organizer, sociocultural and political activists. Of these man? roles mentioned, the last has been engendered b? women movement (Olu?emi, 2016).
